Management
Sustainability requirements are met by PMP’s Energy, Emissions and Environment Committee which reports KPI’s to management, ensures legislative reporting requirements are met for all sites, manages capital expenditure for energy and carbon emission efficiency, develops carbon neutral products for customers and recommends carbon offset investments to the Board.
Reporting
PMP has been reporting annually under the National Pollutants Inventory since 2000 and it recently submitted a report under Energy Efficiency Opportunities Program in Dec 2007. PMP will be reporting under National Greenhouse Reporting system from 1st July 2008.
PMP have made significant progress since its 2007 commitment to assess, action and report on Energy Efficiency Opportunities indentified on its major print sites under the Government's Energy Efficiency Opportunities Program.

Initiatives
Energy and Emissions Efficiency Projects
PMP has continually focused on improving the efficiency of PMP’s energy consumption. In December 2007, the Board approved a capital program of energy efficiency projects for all printing sites. These projects involve improving the gas and electricity consumption of afterburners, electricity consumption of compressors, new energy efficient pre-press processes and power correction factor optimisation. A recent example is the installation of the new after-burner at Moorebank in March 2008, as shown below.

Recycling
All opportunities to recycle paper, metal, wood, aluminium and strapping are investigated and implemented where practical to minimise landfill impact. PMP has been a founding member of Publishers National Environment Bureau (PNEB) which was established in 1991 to focus and support environmental paper recycling projects in Australia. Its major achievement has been to increase recycling of newsprint from 30% to over 75% in 2006 - the highest in the world. PMP’s own recycling program has made a significant impact on the total waste going to landfill with a majority of sites achieving a reduction of 35% over 2 years. An example of improvements in this area is the replacement of 200 litre ink metal drums with bulk refillable tanks on the PMP site at Moorebank.
Water
PMP’s uses bore water at its Wacol & Bibra Lake printing plants in Brisbane and Perth. Clayton will also be joining the requirements laid down by the Victorian Government water efficiency program. PMP has invested in fitting water saving devices on all plate lines and taps.
