What is PMP doing on climate change?
PMP has been continually focusing on supporting new projects which provide energy efficiencies and therefore deliver lower carbon emissions. PMP has been working with its suppliers to provide differing levels of carbon efficient products which will suit our customers’ requirements. PMP has been meeting its formal reporting requirements on emissions since 2000. PMP is preparing itself to manage its carbon emissions position by entering the carbon credit markets or registering projects to take advantage of abatement schemes.
How much carbon emissions does PMP produce?
122,000 tonnes of CO2 under Scope 1 and 2 in FY10 ending June 2010.
What is the single biggest achievement on climate change recently?
The implementation of new energy efficient Man Roland presses and the new afterburners.
What has PMP been doing on paper recycling?
PMP recycles close to 100% of its production waste through delivery of paper bale waste to a recycling specialist and through delivery of cardboard, strapping, plastic and office paper waste to other recycling specialists. These specialists recycle close to 100% of PMP’s waste.
Will PMP have an exposure to the carbon emissions of its paper suppliers?
Under recent guidelines, this exposure is borne by the suppliers. However, PMP expects customers will demand an end-to-end choice of carbon emission efficient products so PMP is working with suppliers in order for PMP to offer a range of products with different resulting carbon emissions.
What changes do you expect from climate change initiatives?
PMP is preparing itself to provide customers with the level of carbon emissions on each product it produces. It provides this service currently for its book customers.
Will climate change force publishers to adopt a greater element of soft copy advertising rather than hard copy?
Hard copy or printed material will continue to have its place in the advertising space. It will continue to further combine and compliment soft copy (electronic media) so that the end result for our customers is greater access to the right product buyers. Not every product best is best suited to print media or electronic media but in most cases it is a combination of both. PMP aims to capture the best mix for our customers. However, an important factor to consider is that print media is that the key driver behind forestry plantation growth which is one of the best weapons in fighting climate change. Forestry plantation growth has increased by 51% over the past decade in Australia mainly driven by the pulp and paper product.
